Placing the body in a "position" so the muscles can reset and return to normal function again.

By placing the body or joint (or the muscle itself) in just the right positon and holding that position, can cause the spasm to cease and the muscle to "reset".  When this happens the muscle will return to normal function again.  If the proper postion is found, this can happen in as few as 10 seconds!

Many times a chronic problem that has been going on for years can be corrected by simply finding the right "position" to facilitate the "release".  This is a trial and error system that uses the client's feedback to find that correct position.  You will know when it is found because the pain level will drop dramatically or go away completely!

Then it is just a matter of holding that postion until all the pain is gone.  If it doesn't go away entirely, then the process will continue (with the client's feedback) until each postion of each dysfunctioning muscle is found.  Once they have all been located and released, you will be pain free!

This is a truly marvelous modality where the client and the therapist work together to solve an issue and that is why it is considered an "outcome based" modality.  The treatment is based on what the client hopes the outcome of the session will be.

As with Myofascial Release Therapy this is a modality that can save both the therapist and client a lot of time and leave the rest of the session available for a nice relaxing massage!

A sudden jolt or shock...or even sleeping in a bad position can cause a muscle to continually spasm.  A spasm is a natural protection system of your body, (like when throwing a baseball to keep the elbow from snapping), but this protection system of opposing muscles can occasionally dysfuntion causing a continual (and painful) spasm.

Skin rolling can help prepare the area so the client can relax more easily.

Pressing two ribs together can facilitate a release of the intercostal muscles.
